About The Italian Genealogical Group

The Italian Genealogical Group is an organization dedicated to furthering Italian family history and genealogy.  Although most members are from the New York City metropolitan area, our membership is worldwide. We meet on the second Saturday of each month from September to June. Visitors are welcome.

At each meeting, we invite someone who is knowledgeable about Italian culture, history or genealogy to speak.  Ten times a year, members receive a newsletter that contains articles to help them with their research.  Members who are unable to attend meetings will find a detailed summary of the speaker’s address in the following month’s newsletter.

Our website includes a database of all the surnames and areas of Italy that our members (past and present) are researching. This database, accessible only by a password, is updated frequently.

New members receive a very useful packet of information pertaining to Italian and general genealogy.  We maintain our own lending library and offer for sale at our meetings important genealogy books at discounted prices.

Volunteers from the IGG and other genealogy organizations in the New York area have been transcribing and indexing record collections held at local and regional archives.

All of this information is now searchable at our website, just click on Databases.

We invite you to enjoy the full benefits of IGG membership.  Learn how to join us by clicking on “Membership.”
